Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia, Borneo

Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia, Borneo
Last night was Halloween!  Here is Ty all dressed for the party.

Our next visit was to Kota Kinabalu.  Our tour would take us to the Monsopiad Cultural Village.  Monsopiad was a warrior headhunter from 300 years ago. This village site was built by his descendants to remember their forefather and to provide an extraordinary insight into their own ancient and rich culture.

On display at the village is the House of Skulls which houses 40 trophy skulls from Monsopiad which are over 300 years old. Around the village we were able to participate in cultural activities including the blowpipe, rice wine making, stilt walking, basket weaving, and fire making.  They also let us try many of the areas fruits and handmade treats and other area delicacies including whitchity (sp?) grubs which were freshly grabbed out of a decaying log.  Tyler was the only brave sole and ate the huge grub.  He said that just as seen on “Bizarre Foods” it tastes like peanuts.

Yes, that is a large, squirmy grub....

Yes, he did just eat it....

The finale was a tribal ethnic show with cultural dance, costumes and unique musical instruments.
