Singapore
We arrived in Singapore mid-afternoon. Tonight we headed to the Singapore Zoo for
their night Safari. The night safari
showcases nocturnal animals in a natural environment with special moonlight lighting
to see them. We saw lions, and tigers, and bears…oh my, along with many other
animals from all over Asia. The night was very hot and humid, after 4 hours we
were sweaty and ready for some A/C and sleep.
The next morning we woke to bright sun and blue skies. We
had a tour planned to visit the Singapore Highlights. One first notice, the island nation of
Singapore is very friendly and tidy.
There are many strangely strict rules, no eating in public, no chewing,
littering three times will get you a Sunday picking up roadside litter with a
sign that says “I litter”. But it makes
for a clean city.
We saw many sights of Old Singapore including St. Andrew’s
church, City Hall and Padang. We then
went to the esplanade walk to see the famous half fish, half lion Merlion, and
the historic colonial district. After
our walk we headed to Arab Street to see the gold domed Sultan Mosque and then
on to Chinatown where we had time to walk around. Ty and I went to grab a Chinese food snack
and did some people watching.
Our next stop was to the National Orchid Garden to see the
world’s largest orchid display, featuring more than 60,000 orchid plants.
Finally, we went to the top of Mt. Faber, the highest point in Singapore to see
an overview of the city.
Across the harbor from the cruise ship terminal is Sentosa
Island. I wish we would have had more
time to explore, including Sentosa Island.
This is the recreational island of Singapore. It has a Hard Rock resort as well as
Universal Studios Singapore. It was a
nice visit to Singapore, beautiful weather and 2 great tours. I would love to
come back for another visit.
